45th Ötztaler Cycle Marathon

30/8/2026

Gregor Pinggera makes a strong impression on his first appearance at the Alpine classic / A crash casts a shadow over the Eppan team’s fantastic weekend

Just reading the route details is likely to give many a reader goosebumps:
227 kilometres and almost 5,500 metres of elevation gain in a single day – this is the Ötztal Cycle Marathon, also known as the unofficial amateur world championship for road cyclists. The 45th edition of this event took place over the weekend of 29 and 30 August in the well-known Tyrolean town of Sölden (AUT).

The Eppan Dynamic Bike Team lined up at the start with 11 participants, including some very young newcomers taking part in a major event for the first time: Verena von Payr (20) and her brother Daniel (22), as well as Dominic Gentili (23) and up-and-coming mountain biker Johannes Bendetta (18), all tackled this ‘monument’ for the first time. And all four managed to complete the challenge!

The standout performance in the team this year came from 22-year-old Gregor Pinggera, who finished the international stage race in an impressive time of 7h18, placing 66th overall in the men’s category. Youth coach Moritz Giuliani, the second-fastest Dynamic Biker, managed to achieve his target time of under 9 hours. Thomas Meraner was over the moon at the finish line with a time of 9h16 and very pleased with his performance. Frank Ansorge still had a score to settle with the Ötztaler (from last year), and managed to do so this year with a time of 10h22. Georg Klotz crossed the finish line half an hour behind him. Things didn’t go as planned for Emma Egger this year; she finished the race in just under 11 hours, coming in slightly above her target finishing time.

At the finish line, the team waited a long time – unfortunately in vain – for Michael Wild: the 21-year-old from Pustertal crashed shortly after the Timmelsjoch and was flown by helicopter to hospital in Innsbruck. He had to undergo surgery; however, he is doing well considering the circumstances. The whole team wishes him a speedy recovery from the bottom of their hearts!!

In the team classification, which is based on the five fastest times from each team, the Dynamic Bike Team Eppan managed to secure a respectable 31st place.
