Gregor Pinggera at the start of the 20th edition of the national long-distance championships

The first edition of the Italian Mountain Bike Marathon Championships was held here in South Tyrol in 2003, more precisely in Ortisei, and Marzio Deho and Alexandra Hober from Merano won the race. After twenty years, the most important event in the field of long-distance MTB took place in Liguria for the first time.

The championships were held in Casella in the province of Genoa, on a 78 km long course (2,600 m) which leads through 3 valleys - the Valle Scrivia, the Alta Val Polcevera and the Val Lemme.
