TOUR Transalp 2019 - stage #2

Brixen -> Kaltern am See

The first difficult stage already followed on the second day: starting in Brixen at 9 a.m., the group cycled in the direction of Sterzing, in order to climb the Penser Joch (2,211 m) from there.
The temperatures were already quite high; it was important to stay well hydrated. Arriving in Bolzano, the riders had to go up to Jenesien over the Schermooser Sattel to Mölten, and back down into the hot valley basin. There, the thermometer had already climbed to 30 degrees; it was now still necessary to reach the finish in Altenburg/Kaltern.
Richard and CChristian tried to keep the pace reasonably high, but at the same time not to overdo it. They succeeded quite well, and after 5:28 h they reached the finish in the sports zone Altenburg (Kaltern) a bit sweaty but in a good mood. The goal - to keep the good ranking of the previous day - was achieved: finally the team "Kaltern am See" reached the 4th place of the day in the category Grand Masters (overall rank 29). In the preliminary overall ranking, our team thus moved up to 4th place.

Tomorrow's 3rd stage, which originally should have led over the Passo Gavia, had to be changed due to a mudslide there:
After crossing the Mendel Pass (1,363m) and the Passo del Tonale (1,883m) with a descent to Ponte di Legno, the infamous Mortirolo Pass (1,852m) will be climbed directly afterwards. The finish is then after 158 kilometers in Bormio.
