13th Amadé Radmarathon

28/5/2006

The three CHIBA Alpencup cycling marathons 2006 are again a real challenge for experienced marathon riders and for marathon beginners:
- 28.5.2006 13th Amadé Radmarathon in Radstadt (AUT)
- 18.6.2006  2nd Berchtesgadner Land Marathon in Bad Reichenhall (GER)
- 16.7.2006  1st Engadiner Radmarathon in Zernez (SUI)

From ideal (bright blue sky at the start) to mixed conditions were the conditions for the 1,697 participants at the 13th Amadé Cycling Marathon on 28 May 2006 with start and finish in Radstadt.
On the classic A-course with 178 km there were two winners, Roland Stauder from South Tyrol and Rupert Probst from Salzburg, after this duo took a wrong turn 50 metres before the finish. As a result, the second-placed Stauder, who thus had the shorter way to the finish, pushed ahead of the first-placed Probst during the subsequent turnaround. After a short discussion, the race organizers let themselves be carried away to a Solomonic judgement and fairly put both riders in first place ex aequo with a time of 4:37.03 hours.
The women's race was won by the Italian Anna Corona from Armistiz in a remarkable time of 5:04:00 hours.
Winner of the B-distance (98 km) was Alexander Tuma. The Salzburg regional classification was won by Hannes Fischbacher from Flachau. The local hero Karin Gruber won the women's category with 2:47.12 hours, the fastest women's time ever recorded on this course.
