Gran Fondo Strade Bianche 2024

After the professional race on Saturday 2 March (won by the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar and the Belgian Lotte Kopecky respectively), it was the turn of the amateurs on the following Sunday.

At the "southernmost northern classic in Europe", as the race is also known, 7,000 starters ventured onto one of the two routes:
They chose between the long 139 km route (2,000 metres in altitude; 9 gravel sections) or the slightly shorter 87 km route (1,350 metres in altitude; 6 gravel sections).

It was Peter Niederstätter from the Eppan Dynamic Bike Team who did not miss the opportunity to take part in this extremely prestigious event. In the huge field of participants - somewhat disadvantaged by his high starting number - he had great difficulty working his way to the front and finished the cycling spectacle in under 5 hours in 136th place in his age group.

Of the other Eppan participants, Lorenz Röggl (Master 2 place 52; 4:18.00 h), Simon Saltuari (Master 1 place 61; 4:21.28 h) and Elias Eberhöfer (Elite Sport place 120; 5:16.31 h) reached the finish on the long course; as well as Manuel Enderle (Elite Sport place 56; 3:15.22 h) on the short course.
