7. MTB Dolomiti Superbike 2001

Long awaited by many, the time had come on 8 July 2001. 25 dynamic bikers were at the start of the toughest MTB race in the Dolomites.

For many, this is the highlight of the season and THE bike event par excellence: "Have my many kilometres of training paid off? How strong are my colleagues? Will my bike hold up and how will I get to Prato Piazza (the highest point)?"
These questions were answered by 8 a.m. at the latest, and so the excitement died down after the starting signal, which was further fuelled by the fantastic Sanvit Cup. In good conditions, 3,000 mountain bikers from all over Europe set off to tackle the 59km route with 1,500 metres of climbing or the 111km route with 3,000 metres of climbing. Steep ramps, aching legs and a few litres of drinks awaited the endurance freaks, but above all a beautiful day in nature and among like-minded people.
The people of Überetsch were represented by professionals with 8,000 kilometres and amateurs with 800 kilometres in their legs. But the winner ... is anyone who crosses the finish line and masters all the pitfalls and hardships of such a long route.
