11th Rampilonga

11th Rampilonga 1999 - the last edition of the second millennium

The 11th edition of the already traditional Rampilonga started on 12 September 1999 in Moena (TN).
In cool temperatures of around 9°C, more than 3,800 participants rolled around the 42-metre circuit. 1,700 metres in altitude with very long climbs and very fast downhills demanded all the concentration and strength of the participants.
Our riders also fared more or less well. Our South Tyrol Cup riders Werner Weiss, Rchard Palma and Paul Pichler took part. Martin Giovanazzi, Antonio Anglani and Andreas Ebner also joined the starting field.
After Werner broke away with the leading group, our remaining riders endeavoured to get as far forward as possible. As this was the last race of this year's Rampitour, Martin and Antonio wanted to have another good race in order to score points in the overall standings.
Martin was lucky and finished the race in 186th place. Unfortunately, it was bad luck for Antonio, who broke his seat post and had great difficulty finishing the race. Werner was also not spared from mishaps, ultimately dropping back to 188th place. Paul and Andreas delivered a very good race, finishing in 126th and 138th place respectively. Richard, who finished in 226th place, also looked rather tired.
