8th Rampilonga

15/9/1996

Rampilonga 1996 - Vandelli flies and so do the registered participants: 4,450

There are 4,450 registered participants with a heterogeneous participation. From the extreme tip of Sicily to the highest point of South Tyrol, from 14 to 70 years old, men and women.

Whoever finishes first at the Rampilonga enters the myth of mountain biking. The winner is Claudio Vandelli from Modena, who has been on the top step of the podium three times, in 1991, '94 and 1996. In the '96 edition he literally pulverised the record, 2h 06'43", almost 6 minutes less than the previous one. An authentic missile, considering the 42 kilometres and the 1900 metres of ascent alone!
The first woman is Italian champion Annarita Goldin, 102nd overall with the respectable time of 2h 38'26".
The last to finish is Gian Luca Gogoj, 2943rd overall, who arrived after 6h 32'.08", and is perhaps happier than Claudio Vandelli.
