49th Tour of the Dolomites 2026 – Stage 1: Tiers–Karer Pass

The 49th Giro delle Dolomiti, described by the organisers as “the oldest week-long cycling event for lovers of the Dolomites”, got underway on Monday 13 July 2026 with the first stage (powered by peer.tv).
Starting and finishing in the provincial capital of Bolzano – or, to be more precise, at the Bolzano South exhibition centre – the participants had to climb the Niger Pass from Tiers on the first day: the entire stage covered a distance of just under 80 kilometres with 1,650 metres of elevation gain; as is customary in the Giro, part of the route within the stage is timed. And although this timed section was quite short at 6.9 kilometres, the 542 metres of elevation gain resulted in an average gradient of over 8 per cent!

Georg Widmann (ITA; 21.24 mins), competing for ABC Neumarkt-Egna, was the fastest up this climb, followed by Germany’s Ralph Ziegaus (+ 14 sec) and fellow South Tyrolean Eduard Rizzi (+ 49 s).
In the women’s race, favourite and MendelRace winner Julia Jedelhauser (GER; 22.43 mins) took the win ahead of South Tyrolean Julia Tanner (+ 4 mins 34 secs) and German Christina Hildenstab (+ 4 mins 54 secs).

Among the Dynamic Bikers, it was Anna Spitaler, the 2023 DBT club champion, who was the first of the blue-and-black riders to cross the finish line: her time was 28 minutes and 54 seconds – second place in her age group! Just under 11 seconds behind her came Peter Niederstätter (29.05 mins), followed by Jakob Stecher (29.30 mins), Christian (38.25 mins) and Andreas Pichler (38.24 mins).
