Julia Kostner wins Italian vice-champion title in MTB Eliminator

The national youth mountain bike championships in the Eliminator discipline took place on Sunday, 3 August, in the ‘Parco del Pubblico Passeggio’ in Piacenza.
Each participant had to complete a fast qualifying round; based on the results of this round, the best 16 were then admitted to the elimination rounds (main round). The main race was then held in groups of four athletes each to ultimately crown the Italian champions.

Julia Kostner clocked the third-fastest qualifying lap among the 16-year-old girls right at the start, making a promising start to her first national championships in this discipline. In the quarter-finals, she was the fastest in her group and advanced to the next round, and she was also unbeatable in the semi-finals. This put Julia in the final, alongside Caterina Bianconi, who was also the fastest in the qualifying round. And it was precisely Bianconi with whom Julia fought a duel that was only decided in the final metres in a sprint finish in Bianconi's favour – Julia secured second place by a narrow margin and thus the title of Italian vice-champion.
