Tears and smiles in the Dynamic Bike Team in Val Pusteria

The Dolomiti Superbike South Tyrol probably needs no further explanation:
No other mountain bike marathon in South Tyrol has such a long tradition and such a high reputation as this mountain bike marathon in Val Pusteria.

On Saturday, the weather conditions for the race were perfect, with bright sunshine and cool temperatures. The nearly 2,500 participants from 36 different countries were able to compete – new this year! – on three different routes and enjoy the unique panorama of the Dolomites.
The riders of the Dynamic Bike Team Appiano were spread across all routes: Lorenz Psaier and the Seppi brothers on the classic route (60 km / 1,570 m elevation gain), as well as Cristina Nardin, Sebastian Bertoli and Gregor Pinggera on the medium route (85 km / 2,360 m elevation gain) and the long route (123 km / 3,400 m elevation gain) respectively, on which the provincial MTB marathon championship titles were awarded at the same time. Michael Volgger, Dynamic Biker who rides for the South Tyrol Junior Team, also tackled the medium distance.

The race started at 7.30 a.m. in several different starting blocks: the first climb up the Ratsberg followed by a descent towards Dobbiaco (short route) or towards Versciaco and San Candido (medium and long routes). Andi Volgger and Andi Pichler were there to supply the riders with drinks and gels.
Further on, the Kreuzbergpass had to be crossed and the last obstacle (for all three routes) was the square in Prato.

The two Lorenz's had few problems on the short route and managed their strength and pace well. Both reached the finish line after just under three and a half hours of running.

Everything also went smoothly on this year's new medium route: both Michi and Cristina passed the refreshment point in San Candido in good order.
They were able to maintain their leading positions from the start and hold on to them until the finish line: victory in their respective categories for both

On the long course, Gregor and Sebastian were almost equally fast, separated by only a few minutes because Gregor started before Sebastian

The first aid in San Candido did not work out entirely and almost cost Gregor the race; for Sebastian, however, everything went according to plan: both achieved an excellent 3rd place in their categories. Even at the second refuelling station at the same point (on the long course, this section was covered twice), both were still in contention for the podium in their respective age groups. Sebastian, however, suffered from nausea shortly before the final climb, from which he was unable to recover despite a longer stop, forcing him to abandon the race. Gregor, however, maintained his pace and crossed the finish line after 5½ hours in third place in the U23 category – at 18½ years of age, he was the youngest participant in the 123-kilometre king's distance. With this great performance, the typical Eppaner secured the South Tyrol National Champion jersey in the MTB Marathon, U23 category for the first time this year!
